존 워너메이커는 1838년 미국 펜실베이니아 필라델피아 변두리의 가난한 벽돌공 아들로 태어났습니다. 12세 이후에는 학교 정규 교육을 받지 못했지만, 경제 관련 서적을 읽으면서 독학했습니다.
John Warner-Maker was born in 1838, the son of a poor bricklayer on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He received no formal schooling after the age of 12, but was self-taught by reading books on economics.

그는 가난한 가정 형편으로 돈을 벌어야 했기에 14세 때 서점 점원으로 일을 시작한 후에 남자용 의류 용품점을 경영했습니다. 이후 미국 최초로 백화점을 설립한 성공한 사업가가 되어 '백화점 왕'으로 칭송받게 되었습니다.
He had to earn money from his poor family, so he started working as a bookseller at age 14 and later ran a men's clothing supply store. He went on to become a successful businessman who founded the first department store in the United States and was hailed as the "Department Store King.

Noble, sincerity in word and deed makes you noble. Competent, you need to be able to get things done quickly and well.

Honor, don't neglect the little things and don't be afraid of the big things.
