미세 플라스틱 걸러내는 기술 어디까지 왔나! / The Art of Filtering Out Microplastics!

오늘 기사를 읽다보니 청정지역 제주도 지하수에서 미세플라스틱이 검출되었다는 소식을 접했다. 고향이 제주도이니 제주도에 대한 미래가 많이 걱정된다. 집에서 정수기도 사용하지만 자연드림(www.icoop.or.kr)에서 심해수를 사서 마시기도 한다.

우선 간단히 생각해 볼 방법은 요런 것들이 있을 것 같다.

  1. 적정 크기 이상이면 진공청소기나 공기청정기 보면 걸러내는 여러 필터들 처럼 미세 그물망 사용하는 방법

  2. 필터로 걸러내지 못할 정도로 작고, 무게가 있다면 원심분리기와 같은 기기로 분리해 내어 제거하는 방법

  3. 필터로 걸러내지 못하고, 무게가 가볍다면 정전기를 이용해서 분리해는 방법

First of all, here are some simple ways to think about it.

  1. if it's large enough, use a fine mesh filter, like the ones you see in vacuums and air purifiers.

  2. if it's too small to be caught by a filter, and it weighs a lot, you can use a device like a centrifuge to separate it out and remove it.

  3. If it's too small to be filtered out and it weighs too much, you can use static electricity to separate it.

1번 기술처럼 일종의 필터 또는 그물망 역시 플라스틱과 비슷한 재질일 것이기에 아이러니한 것 같고, 2번 기술은 가정에서 쓰기는 쉬울 수 있지만 연속 사용이 힘들 수 있을 것으로 보여진다. 3번 기술이 앞서 언급된 기술보다 진보된 것으로 보이나 안전에 대한 검증이 더 필요할 것으로 보인다. 이런 것을 사업 아이템으로 해보면 어떨까도 조금 고민해 본다. 틈새 시장이 보이는 것 같기도 하다.

It seems ironic that a filter or net of some sort would be made of a plastic-like material, just like the first option, while the second option may be easier to use at home, but may be more difficult to use continuously. Option 3 seems to be more advanced than the aforementioned technologies, but still needs to be tested for safety. I wonder if this could be a business idea. I can see a niche market for this.

앞으로 플라스틱 사용을 최대한 줄여서 오염이 확대되지 않고 줄어들게 하고, 자연에서 해가 되지 않도록 잘 분해되는 기술이 나와 걱정을 줄였으면 좋겠다. 앞으로 오염이 심각해지면 각광을 받을 것이다. 사업화는 이후 더 고민을 하도록 하고, 지금은 플라스틱 사용을 먼저 줄이고, 재활용 가능한 것들은 열심히 분리수거될 수 있도록 해야 겠다.

In the future, I would like to see the use of plastics reduced as much as possible so that pollution is reduced rather than expanded, and technologies that degrade well so that they don't harm nature are available to me and reduce my worries. If pollution becomes serious in the future, it will be in the spotlight. I will think about commercialization later, but for now, I will reduce the use of plastic first, and make sure that recyclable things are separated and collected diligently.
